Lets Talk Winter Wardrobe (because i'm so freaking excited)

Kay I think i have a problem. Every single girl I walk past at school gets a full up and down, 3 second outfit critique. I can't help it, it just happens. Here's some feedback for the general Rexburg public that I think we need to be concerned about. Please pay attention:

-denim on denim. guys just don't do it. just don't. it's so hard to pull that off, chances are you aren't hot enough to do it, I'm sorry. So if you're gonna wear a denim button down or jean jacket, wear it with a maxi skirt, white, pink or black pants. basically any color besides blue. another thing to remember with denim, it's good to mix textures so don't be afraid to mix some leather/courdaroy with it. i promise it will look better than just regular colored jeans.

-high heeled boots. you don't need to wear those to school.... chances are, your outfit isn't cute enough  to match with those anyways so just buy some flat boots...

-be careful with your blazers, people. 80% of the time, blazers are very very formal. therefore don't pair it with light wash jeans and a cotton shirt underneath. for the most part, that combo will look ridiculous. especially black blazers.... only wear with niceee skinny jeans (absolutely no light wash) and a silk/satin blouse. It doesn't matter if it has ruffles, if it's cheap cotton or it's pilling, dont wear it under a blazer.

-you don't need to tuck in everything with a belt. some shirts just dont look good tucked in... i would know, i went through that phase sophomore year. if it's a tee shirt, it's probably too tight to be tucked in. if it's a babydoll style shirt (anything that goes from fitted to loose and baggy towards the bottom) don't tuck it in. like think for a second... it's not that difficult.

-i hate the leggings that go mid calf with lace on the bottom. that's all i have to say on the matter.

-guys it's not full length boot season yet. sorry. i know it's kinda cold here in the mornings but i"m from AZ and i go to my 9;00 class in 3/4 length sleeves and it's fine. then by 3 it's 85 outside... that"s TOO HOT for full length boots, cardigans, pea coats, scarves and leather jackets.

HOW TO WEAR TALL, FLAT BOOTS

1.
Your choice of tall boots is huge, depending on the look and style you like. Some tall boots extend past the knee and others end at the knee. Colors vary from black to assorted shades of brown. Choose simple boots with clean lines or boots with buckles. Flat boots usually have a short, stacked heel.
2.
The most common way to wear tall, flat boots is with skinny jeans or leggings because they fit easily into the boots without added bulk. Denim blue jeans or any color leggings would work well when you pair them with these boots.
3.
Try tall, flat boots with a skirt or dress for a flirty and fashionable statement. Any length is an option and virtually any style can work. A shorter skirt or dress with flounce looks feminine and stylish. A knee-length or longer skirt or dress is a casual and attractive look. Wear tights underneath, or hide socks inside the boots.
4.
Dress your top half in a variety of different ways, but be sure you have several layers for a stylish look. Try a fitted tunic sweater over a T-shirt or a scoop-neck shirt. If it's warm enough, you could pair a long T-shirt over a tank top for sporty layers. Don't forget to pair a button-down blouse with a jacket or blazer -- this look never gets old.
5.
Finish your ensemble with accessories. Add a belt around your waist if you're wearing a tunic sweater. Add a scarf if you're wearing a jacket or blazer. Don't forget a chunky necklace and earrings to pull your outfit together.

HOW TO WEAR SCARVES

Dressing well isn't just about the right shoes, tops and bottoms. Accessories play a big part in the success of your overall look. In fact, a wardrobe of basics paired with some colorful accessories will pare down your closet into one chic outfit after another. A key accessory for any season is an accent scarf. Square plaid and skinny scarves add downtown cool. A flower print will femme up any "boyfriend" ensemble. If you know the different ways to wear them, the versatility they offer is priceless.

The Basic Wrap Around

This way of wearing a scarf works with all types, whether it's made of light chiffon or thick, chunky yarn. Hold your scarf in front of you and place it around your neck so the tails are hanging over your shoulders and down your back. Reach behind you and wrap the left tail over your right shoulder so it's now hanging down your front. Repeat with the right tail wrapped over your left shoulder. Look in the mirror and pull down the part of the scarf wrapped around your neck. Leave it snug for warmth, or make it loose for a more casual accent. Fluff it up if you want or tie the tails in a loose knot, if they're too long.

Sqaure Scarf Wrap Around

Square scarves have made a big appearance on the streets of the most stylish cities. They usually come in a plaid or animal print and have fringe on the sides. Fold the square in half so it looks like a triangle. Wrap it around your neck from front to back so the apex of the triangle is pointing down and against your chest. It's kind of like wrapping a bib around your neck, but way more stylish than the plastic ones at your local lobster shack. The tails will be hanging at the back; wrap the left one around your right shoulder and the right one around your left shoulder so both tails are in the front.

Loop It

One of the chicest ways to wear your scarf in colder weather is to make a loop around your neck and pull the tails through. The scarf stays close to your neck and provides extra warmth. The ends can be left out or tucked into a coat or jacket. Fold your scarf in half so there is a loop at one end. Wrap the looped scarf around your neck from back to front. One side will be the loop, the other will be your tails. Put the tails through the loop and pull gently until the scarf is snug.

Skinny Scarves

Sometimes the simplest way to wear a scarf is all you need. Long skinny scarves are a great accent to a basic, solid top in a dark or neutral color. Because the skinny scarf is a color accent and not for warmth, all you need to do is wrap it around your neck from back to front and let the tails hang loose at the sides. Put on a chic little jacket and you're all set.

Eye Shadow

I thought this was really interesting because I've always struggled with eye shadow colors... i feel like with my skint tone, i couldn't wear anything but tans and browns. anyways, here's some cool articles, i'll put the actual links at the bottom.

  1. Blue Eyes

    • While many consider blue eyes to be naturally beautiful, the right eyeshadow combination can accentuate their striking quality. Because complementary colors always work well, a combination of orange and gold can look nice against the blue of the eyes. On a color wheel, orange is the direct complementary of blue. Conversely, to use related color harmonies, a shade of blue darker than your eyes combined with gray can produce a smoky look that looks beautiful against lighter blue eyes. Another option is to apply violet eyeshadow on the eyelid, and lavender in space between the lid and the eyebrow.

    Green or Hazel Eyes

    • Green and hazel eyes may look quite different from one another, but they fit the same profile when it comes to choosing the right eyeshadow combination. As always, using complementary colors will bring out the color in your eyes. To this end, try a combination of pinks, purples or red-orange colors. Alternatively, you can go the opposite route and use similar colors that will enrich your eyes. Try a mixture of dark green and light green, or brown and purple.

    Brown Eyes

    • Some say that people with brown eyes are lucky because any shade of eyeshadow goes well with this color. Nonetheless, there are some combinations that look better than others. Unlike eyes of other colors, the right eyeshadow combination for brown eyes can depend on the darkness of your skin tone. If you have fair skin, go with a combination of grey, pink and plum. For medium or darker skin, use the plum shade more heavily.

    Other Tips

    • There are some other general rules and tips when it comes to choosing eyeshadow combinations that can help you look and feel your best. In general, choose a darker combination of eyeshadow if you want to accentuate your eye color. If you'd rather disguise your eyes, a lighter combination should do the trick. It is best to match your eyeshadow combination to the color of your eyes only, and not to the color of your hair, which can be tempting to do.

Choosing Makeup to Compliment Your Skin Tone

Instructions

    • 1
Determine what your skin tone is. In order to find makeup that compliments your skin tone you will first have to figure out what skin tone you have. To do this you need to stand in front of a mirror and hold a swatch of gold fabric in one hand and a swatch of silver fabric in the other. Take turns holding the different fabrics up to your face. If the gold material compliments your face, but the silver material makes you look washed out then you have a warm skin tone. If the silver material makes you look bright and vibrant but the gold material gives your skin a sick appearance then you have a cool skin tone. If you look good in both then your skin tone is neutral.
    • 2
Choose a foundation. People who have warm skin tones need to look for foundations with yellow bases that have warm sounding names such as almond, copper or honey beige, for example. Those who have a cool skin tone need to look for foundations with blue bases and cool sounding names such as ivory or rose tint.
    • 3
Look for eye shadow, lip stick and blush colors to further enhance your skin. Skin with a cool tone looks best in mauve, plum, pink and rose colors. Warm skin tones are complimented by coral, red, neutral and brown colors. People with a neutral skin tone can wear most any color to compliment their skin tone.
    • 4
Find nail polishes that are in the same color families as the makeup you chose to compliment the skin tone on your hands and fingers.
